The telephone rings and a young man shares his feelings of desperation and hopelessness about a shattered relationship. On another line, a middle-aged man feels trapped by his career, his marriage, his finances, his drinking. The phone rings again and a frantic mother is fighting her urge to strike out in frustration at her child.
Since 1978, when Contact Ministries opened, hurting people have been calling Contact, asking for someone to share their pain or simply asking that someone listen to them. Most have one thing in common. They are hurting people who are seeking someone who will listen, someone who will care, someone who will help them find a new perspective on their concerns.

Contact
phones are staffed by caring, deeply committed women and men from our local communities who have completed an extensive and professionally taught training program. These dedicated volunteers are always there. They are always ready to listen to our callers.
Contact's services are free to our callers. No caller is charged for our service, and donations are not solicited from those we serve.
Contact's services are confidential. As part of each person's acceptance as a Contact
volunteer, he or she must sign a pledge of confidentiality.
Contact's services are anonymous. Callers are not required to identify themselves. The volunteer does not reveal his or her identity to the caller.
With support from regional professionals in the fields of counseling, psychology, and the ministry, Contact telephone workers handle calls dealing with a wide range of situations; from basic needs (e.g. food, shelter, clothing, etc.) to interpersonal relationships (e.g. family, marital, work-related, ,etc.) to feelings of depression and suicide. Contact can also offer spiritual comfort
when requested through prayer and scripture
reading.
